The Best of Pop: Backstreet Boys «Millennium»

img_0743The Orlando-based group Backstreet Boys exploded onto the music scene in 1996 with their self-titled album, which only was released in Europe. Their sophomore album, Backstreet’s Back, experienced a commercial success and spawned 3 singles that attained high positions in the charts around the world. The first single released of the album, the iconic «Everybody» was a top 5 hit in every country where charted and it was the origin of the global phenomenon that dominated pop music in the last decades. The five member boy-band, consisted of Brian, Nick, Howie, Kevin and AJ, became one of the best selling groups in music history. Millennium is the title of the third album of Backstreet Boys released overseas but the second stateside. Millennium is a pop and dance-pop album and most of the songs were written and produced by Max Martin (the responsible of Britney’s biggest hits), Rami and Kristian Lundin. The first single and one of the best songs in the album is «I Want It That Way», a massive success around the world and considered the signature song of the group. Another highlights are the up-tempo number «Larger Than Life» and the heartfelt ballad «Show Me The Meaning of Being Lonely», the third single released and one of my favorite songs of the album. Millennium reached #1 in over twenty countries and sold 12 million albums in United States and 30 million worldwide. This post is dedicated to my sister Esther, who encouraged me to write about one of her favorite groups ever.
